Activities
Environment & Community
The primary focus of Peterbridge College extra-mural activities is the environment and community service. However, the college is aware that many of its students have limited exposure outside of their immediate environments. For this reason, students are taken on a wide range of outings from fishing at Kalk Bay harbour to visits to the Norval (Art) Foundation.
The main environmental extra mural activity is an alien vegetation clearing project located at the bottom end of Boyes drive below the Stonehurst development. The college hopes to have this area completely cleared of Port Jackson trees by the end of December 2026, and then to monitor the regrowth of natural fynbos on the cleared area. In addition to the alien clearing project, students observe international environmental days like world wetlands day and arbour day.
The Westlake United Church Trust (WUCT) has initiated several projects aimed at assisting the local community. These include a sewing project, re-cycling, clinic and morning programs for the elderly. Peterbridge students have assisted with several of these programs.
When the knowledge gained from these interactions is assimilated into the formal curriculum it becomes relevant and interesting. And when something is interesting the depth of the learning increases significantly and transforms from rote learning to learning with meaning which in turn translates to learning for life.
That is our goal at Peterbridge College.
